I organized the departmental colloquium talks in 2011 and in 2012. Check out the talks here. One interesting talk in the fall is the one by Dr. Roger Hunter Director of NASA Kepler Space Center on Searching for Life in Space, a UGA Math department graduate. The Kepler Space Center found the first habitable planet soon after his talk at UGA.

June 30, 2016 I visited Profssor Michael Floater at University of Oslo during June 29--July 1 2016 and we discussed common research problems.

June 23--28, 2016 I went to Tonsberg, Norway from June 23--28, 2016 for attending the 9th international conference on Mathematical Methods for Curves and Surfaces. I presented a talk on range restricted data interpolation over the spherical setting.

May 22--25, 2016 I attended the 15th international conference on Approximation Theory in San Antonio, Texas on May 22--26, 2016. I presented a talk on spline method for numerical solution of PDE in nondivergence form. Also, I organized two minisymposiums One is on multivariate spline functions for applications and the other is compressive sensing.

April 25, 2016 I presented three talks at Mathematics Department of Southwesten Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China.

April 20, 2016 I went to the computer science department, Zhejiang University and presented a colloquium talk.

April 8, 2016 I went to Georgia Institute of Technology and present a seminar talk.

March 24--26, 2016 I am invited to give a colloquium talk at Department of Mathematics, University of Arizona, Tucson on March 24--26, 2016.

March 21--23, 2016 I attended a conference on Advances in Mathematics on Finite Elements" at UT Austin on March 21--23, 2016 and presented a poster.

My Ph.D. adviser Charles Chui, my former Ph.D. student Wenjie He, and I met together at Oberwolfach, Germany during Feb., 2013. See the photo on the right.

I received a McCay award from Dept. of Mathematics, University of Georgia on April, 30, 2013. The citation is "The selection committee cited Dr. Lai's effective leadership of the applied mathematics group as well as the large number of PhD. students he has directed, several of whom have already distinguished themselves in the profession".

I attended an international conference on Approximation Theory and Applications and gave a talk on May 20--24, 2013 at the City University of Hong Kong.

I attended the 14th Approximation Theory conference in San Antonio, TX on April 7--10, 2013. I organized a minisymposium on sparse solution of underdetermined linear systems.

I presented a colloquium talk on March 15, 2013 at Dept. of Math. University of Illinois at Chicago and discussed math. with my former Ph.D. student G. Awanou there. See the photo on the left.

I gave a colloquium talk on March 14, 2013 at Dept. of Applied Math. Illinois Institute of Technology and discussed mathematics with Greg Fasshauer during my visit. See the phot on the right.

I attended a workshop and give a talk at Oberwolfach Mathematical Research Institute, Germany during Feb. 24--March 2, 2013 and presented a talk on tight wavelet frames on sphere. During the workshop, the connection of a construction of multivariate wavelets and tight wavelet frames with computation of sos (sum of squares) of multivariate polynomials was further explored. See Math. Research Center at Oberwolfach in Snow.

I gave a colloquium talk at Dept. of Math., Wayn State University on Feb. 11, 2013 on multiariate splines and their applications.

I present a colloquium talk at Arisona State University, Pheonix, AZ. on Feb. 3--6, 2013 on compressed sensing and matrix reconstruction.
